It's Election Day today in the UK, when we in Britain--for those who don't know--vote for our MPs who will make up the House of Commons in the Parliament, out of whom the victorious party will, God willing, form the next government.
Traditionally, it has often just been between the Conservative and Labour parties, with the Liberal Democrats having the third party status, but in recent years, politics here has become more fragmented. No party won a majority in 2010, leading to a Conservative/LibDem coalition, and we have also recently seen a rise in multiple parties such as Ukip and the Scottish National Party. I like diversity of choice in politics, but our not-so representative current First Past the Post voting (vote share does not necessarily equal the number of seats) system will stunt their political gains, save for the SNP, which are predicted to SWEEP Scotland. We did have a choice for an alternative voting system a few years ago but we rejected it - which is SO typical of us Brits. We bitch and moan, bitch and moan, but when the opportunity for actual change arises, it's always better the devil we know.
I have already voted in my constituency, both for my prospective MP and local candidates. I won't say who for, and I won't tell you who to vote for, but for the love of God, if you live in Britain and you're registered, go out now and vote. Don't listen to the ravings of that fucking hypocritical prat, Russell Brand, not only is it your right and civil duty, it's one of the few genuine ways you Can help change things.
But I digress, from the looks of it, the polls are so damn tight, it's likely going to be yet another coalition or worse, a minority government. Tory or Labour led? Again, I can't honestly say at the time in question.
Have a good voting day, everyone!

MLP G5 Movie: A New Generation Discussion
I'll just come out and say it: I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. No foolin'. Yeah, the plot didn't exactly reinvent the wheel and I imagine the animation will be an acquired taste, but I found myself truly impressed by the writing, the endearing characters and even the songs. I'm actually considering watching it again. Who knows? Maybe this will breathe new life into the franchise and fandom, as well as potentially refine on G4. What say you?
Problems portraying the Pony-Changeling Conflict.
With the conflict canonically at an end with Thorax in charge and friendly relations established between the two nations, I look back on hundreds of pre-October 2016 stories and even those now with 'AU' tags and wonder how the fandom has portrayed the conflict between these two nations. I do like how Wikipedia describes it as a 'Cold War', which I think is pretty apt when you think about it. Equestira and the Changeling Queendom/Kingdom/Hive/Pack/Empire (Man, there's been a lot of different descriptions) have been at loggerheads on and off for hundreds of years, the latter being the aggressor in every flare up. So with that in mind, there are really two problems I see come up regularly when I read fanfiction tackling this: 'Both Sides': Ya see... I don't have a problem with this in principle. Looking at both sides of a conflict is really interesting and makes for good stories. The big problem, however, is just that... there really isn't. If you go strictly by canon information, the
Death of Chrysalis (original journal version)
Based on the 2017 hit satirical black-comedy, Death of Stalin. Set in an alternative future where Chrysalis was never toppled from her throne, when the tyrannical monarch suddenly dies of a cerebral hemorrhage, her legions of parasitic offspring square off in a frantic power struggle to become the next Hive ruler. Among the contenders are the ill-prepared, slow-on-the-uptake heir apparent Imago, the wily Bullet Ant and Domino -- the sadistic scientist turned secret police chief. As they bumble, brawl and back-stab their way to the top, the question remains -- just who the buck is running the Hive?

I'm kind of depressed that King Sombra is not running for United States President.
