Description

Commission sketch done by :iconmr-tiaa:* mr-tiaa. I once again thank him and congratulate him for this fantastic picture of a family of Changeling peasants, from My Little Pony. In my headcanon, the Changeling Kingdom, its military, territories and culture are based off Imperial Japan, with some feudal elements, hence the clothing of this family who, as you know, are peasant farmers. Just a little heads up, it's also in my headcanon that Changeling females are naturally bigger in size, strength (and some say intelligence) than their male counterparts. Also, I imagine that Changeling stallions' manes are shorn off when they serve their time (by conscription) in the army, so to make them more aerodynamic, since I imagine their army is more aerial based. As you can see, the father's is still growing back.

I also have a little story series that I shall be posting here on the Artist comments section, one I shall be updating regularly, so keep an eye out here. Here's part one:

Part 1 18/08/2013:

“Leech! LEEECH!”

The Changeling stallion cringed at hearing the ear-shattering shriek and stopped hoeing the weeds off his crops, resting his hooves against the worn tool. He deep in a deep breath and cast a glance back at the open door of the house, where a tall, intimidating mare stood, holding a crying form in a sling around her chest. By the glare fixed on her face and the screech emanating from her voice, she was in a foul mood.

“You lazy waste-of-space, I need something.”

“Yes, dearest. What is it?” He asked, almost subserviently, keeping his straw hat tilted down so to make himself as invisible as he could.

His wife glowered at him, parting the sling to reveal the wailing grub she was carrying and continued to berate him, “The tomatoes are too hard for baby’s gums. How am I supposed to make a nice mush for her with that? It’s like you’re trying to feed your daughter rocks!”

“Maybe she would like something else?” He offered, motioning to their small patch of land from which many vegetables were sprouting. “I would be happy to…”

She snorted shrewishly, “Nothing you grow. Baby needs something soft and juicy.” She pointed out in the village centre’s direction and snapped, “Now get your useless flank to the market and buy some real food!”

With that, she slammed the doors shut so hard that Leech flinched as if something had been thrown at him.

Letting out a heavy, defeated sigh, he dug his hoe deep into the soil, went over to get his money bag and slinked away from his family’s land, heading off into the village. As he walked further away, he could make out the faint sound of his wife shouting angrily some more at somechangeling else, most likely at their other children, who both had a habit of galloping about the house as they played.

When he was far enough away that he was sure his wife could not telepathically pick up his thoughts, he frowned and grumbled something bitterly under his breath, kicking at the dry road gravel with his hoof. There was nothing wrong with his food; baby was just being fussy again and his wife was just desperately searching for a new way to bark at him again.
